Living History Walking Tours

     The history of Casper, Wyoming comes to life with living history tours conducted by Painted Past Productions. You can step back in time to the 1890's or the "Roaring" 1920's or hear the stories of the emmigrants coming through Casper on our Fort Tour. You may meet some friendly ghosts or spooky spirits along the Ghost Tour. Or you can learn the stories of other people from Casper's past during the annual Cemetery Tour.

 

     All of the characters encountered on these engaging, educational tours are enertaining, costume-clad actors, depicting real people who walked the streets and shot up the town. Step back in time to learn, laugh and get a peek at Casper's past.

 

     Most walking tours start promptly at 8:00pm. The tours are an easy walk, just 6-8 blocks long. There is  limit of 20 people per tour, so please make reservatons as soon as possible. There are no restrooms on the tours so please plan accoringly. A majority of the tours are $25 per person with a $5 discount being given to children under 12 years old and seniors over 60 years old. 1890s' Tour

     Step into Casper, Wyomin'gs colorful history. Take the guided walking tour of downtown Casper and let costumed guides and characters bring history to life! See sites in downtown Casper where cowboys, prostitiutes and outlaws cut a wide swath in Central Wyoming's pioneer days. Let us take you to the spot where Billy Milne was met by jealous husband Joel Hurt and listen to the detail of Dr. Joe Benson's escapades in the first Casper jail. Hear the grim details of how town marshall Bill Hodge shot down a local cowboy in the middle of Center Street!

 

       This candlelight tour is appropriate for all audiences and starts promptly at 8:00om on select Friday nights during the summer. The 1890's tour begins in front of the east end of the Downtown Parking Garge, on Wolcott Street between 2nd Streets and Midwest. Parents, ths tour does discuss murder and adultery, so be aware when bringing your children. This tour is about 5-6 blocks of walking so make sure you wear comfortable shoes.      The Sandbar area in northwest downtown Casper has a very colorful past. The "Sand Bar" was created when the Platte River was diverted by the construction of the Pathfinder Dam in 1909, leaving a sandy river bottom to be settled by oil field hands, new businesses, "painted ladies, tinhorn gamblers, bootleggers and criminals on the lam". This tour will introduce you to the characters and the stories that make Casper famous in the 1920's and the 1930's, be it bootleggers, ladies of the night or vigilantees!

 

     This candlelights tour is appropriate for more mature audiences and starts at 8:00pm on select Friday evenings during the summer. The tour starts at the corner of A Street and David Street, in front of the fountain at City Hall. Since this tour features more mature themes such as prostitution and drug and alchohol use, we don't recommend it for young children. This tour is about 3 blocks of walking so please wear comfortable shoes. Reservations can be made by calling 797-2493 or emailing us at paintedpasthistory@yahoo.com

1920's Sandbar Tour

     Painted Past will take you down Casper's back alleys, visit haunted restaurants and a former Casper jail for more tales. Each stop will enthrall you with creepy stories of the unknown. Please bring your camera and take pictures. You will be entertained by the haunted tales of Casper!

 

     This candlelight tour is appropriate for all audiences and is held on select Friday nights at 8:00pm during the summer months. We meet at Market Square on 2nd and Durbin Streets. This is great for birthday parties and family reunions! This tour can be a little spooky, so beware when bringing your children. This tour is about 4-5 blocks of walking so please wear comfortable shoes. Reservations can be made by calling 797-2493 or emailing us at paintedpasthistory@yahoo.com

Ghost Tour

     This tour takes you through historic Fort Caspar and highlights the lives of thos who lived at the Fort or traveled through on their way west. All characters come directly from the Emigrant's own journals and you will even get to meet Caspar Collins himself! This tour also includes admission to the Fort and the Museum.

 

     This tour is appropriate for all audiences and is held on select Thursday afternoons at 4:00pm during the summer months. We meet at the Fort Caspar Museum at 4001 Fort Caspar Rd. This is a great educational tour for adults and children alike! The tour is about 2-3 blocks of walking so please wear comfortable shoes. Historic Homes Tour

     Come learn more about some of the beautiful, historic homes of Casper! We walk some of the lovely tree-lined streets of Casper's Historic Wolcott District and learn more of the history and architecture of some of Casper's special homes. Outdoors only.

 

     This tour is appropriate for all audiences and is held on select Sunday's at 3pm in the summer months. We meet at the First Presbyterian Church parking lot at 804 S. Wolcott. This tour does require more walking than the rest, probably 12 blocks, so please wear comfortable walkig shoes.
